Overcoming Self doubt

Self doubt is tormenting. The Bible describes a person who doubts himself as unstable in everything he feels and does. He is always in between, dangling and undecided. He lives in confusion most time  and wrestling with making decisions most times and sticking with them because he is forever changing his mind just in case he might be wrong. But a confident person is not afraid of being wrong. He realizes he can recover from making a mistake and doesn’t allow the fear of making one imprison him or tie him in self doubt.

Self doubt can’t walk or work with confidence neither does it allow actions that translate into successful results. They fight each other in that Confidence destroys self doubt and vice versa.

Self doubt is fear and this fear must be conquered if we are going to ever achieve anything good. In the book of James, the Bible explains that God does not answer the prayer of a double minded person. God responds to our faith not our fears. Fear that we will make mistakes or do the  wrong things. It often goes beyond being afraid one will do the wrong thing; more often it involves how people feel totally wrong about themselves. They carry a deep rooted shame and just can’t seem to accept themselves or have confidence in their decision making ability. To live in victory, each of us must learn to go beyond our feelings. Feelings can be fickle and they are ever changing and are not to be trusted to help us make decisions in life. Feelings in and of themselves are not evil but they certainly can and do lead people astray. Feelings are capable of giving us right information but they are also capable of not giving accurate information. God’s word teaches us to pursue peace. When we change our mind about a decision we have made, it should be because we have lost our peace about the direction we intended to take or have gained some wisdom or insight that we did not have previously.

Self doubt causes a person to shrink back in fear. When ever we shrink back in fear, God is not angry with us but He’s sad that we are living below the confident life He provided.

Faith Is being confident in God and in his word. Believe that you are led by God. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. You will never succeed without making mistakes possibly many of them. People give their mistakes more power than they need. Its not going to hurt us if we make mistakes but rather we should admit them, repent and ask God to forgive us for them. We should also learn from our mistakes because they can add value to our lives instead of allowing it to make us feel guilty and bad. Learn to separate your ‘who’ from your ‘do’. Making mistakes is something we do as human beings, but we are still  God’s children and He has a good plan for our lives. He is long suffering, plenteous in mercy and filled with loving kindness. To grow up, we must step out and try things. We must be able to make some decisions and take some steps on our own. We shouldn’t be under our parents or guardians cover all the time. It won’t help. We must learn what works and what doesn’t. Learning from first hand experience is a much better teacher than a textbook.

Self doubt is simply fear of being wrong. Doubt is fear of negative things happening, but faith expects good things to take place. It actually takes less  emotional energy to walk in faith than in doubt or fear. People who believe and are positive are much healthier than those who are filled with fear, doubt and negativity. Positive people age slower than negative ones and intact can live longer. You  were never created by God to be negative, fearful and doubtful.

God created each and every one of us on the surface of the earth with a free will. This gives us the ability to make our decisions apart from outside influence. Satan tries to force us to do things by placing outside pressure on us but God attempts to lead us by the His Holy Spirit from inside our hearts where He dwells. We are complex creatures. Our mind can think of one thing, while our emotions want something else and our will certainly seems to have a mind of its own.

Doubt is a thought planted in our head by the devil. He uses it to keep us from enjoying our life and making progress in God’s plan for us. No matter how doubtful you feel, you can decide to go forward in faith. No matter how we feel, we can still choose to do the right thing. Going against your feelings is always not easy because feelings are frequently very strong, but standing against them until you enjoy freedom is much better than continuing to let them run your life and hold you bondage.

Being a positive person is about breaking an old habit and forming a new one. And to form that, you need discipline. You might need to put reminders around your house or car. It doesn’t matter, so long as you are trying to be positive. You might ask your friends or spouse to remind you if they hear u slipping into negativism.  Practice trusting yourself too rather than doubting yourself.

God wants to give you favor- kindness that you don’t deserve. Learn to believe God for favor. Confess several times a day that you have favor with God and man. You will be amazed at the exciting things that will happen to you if you speak God’s word instead of how you feel. Supernatural favor can be expressed in different ways. E.g getting a job you want but you are not naturally qualified. People seem to like you for no  special reason e.t.c

If you have made up your mind to enjoy the best life God has for you then you must realize that it’s begins with you. You must believe what God’s word says about you more than you believe what others say or what your feelings or your own mind says.

See yourself as God sees you, not the way the world sees you or even the way you see yourself. Study God’s word and you will find out that you are precious, created in your mother’s womb by God’s own hand. You are not an accident. Even if you were told so and your parents told you they never really wanted you, I can assure you that God wanted you; otherwise you would not be here on earth. You are valuable, you are gifted, you are talented and you have a purpose here on this earth. Don’t let feelings rule you anymore. Take a step of faith and start improving your quality of life today. Believe that you make good decisions, that you are a valuable person with a great future and something good is going to happen to you today.
